The two Sydneys are not closed

A 2026 identity briefing argued that the Gore drover was Sidney Alfred, born 3 February 1877, who later assumed his father’s name. It printed 1877–1922 as one life and stamped the case resolved.

We keep the case open. Age 42 on 16 November 1922 is not a man born 3 February 1877 — that birth would make him 45. The stone and the death copy are not a birth certificate. The 1938 Ranfurly marriage names a drover father: that is household, not a London birth day. The briefing also printed the father’s death as 15 January 1928 (the day is C-002, not locked) and had him home in the late 1880s (Dunedin courts run through 1896). Motive stays labelled inference. We do not merge KK-0009 and KK-0011 because a document asked us to.

The briefing is useful as a list of claims and documents to chase. It is not the vault’s verdict.

Version A: Barry / NZ family: the son who stayed is Sidney Alfred / Albert, later recorded Sydney Herbert. Gore stone and death copy 14576.
Version B: Tim Knight, Seattle: Sidney Alfred, son of the Black Sheep, died England 1947.
Why it matters: Age 42 on 16 Nov 1922 implies birth about 1880, not 3 Feb 1877. A 2026 briefing argued the Gore man was the 1877 son under an assumed name and stamped the case Resolved. Age math still fails. The 1938 Ranfurly marriage names a drover father — that is household, not an 1877 English birth. The briefing is a source of claims, not a close.
Do not: Do not print 1877–1922 as one life. Do not treat a briefing marked Resolved as a certificate.
